NSA Fear: More than 11 Million users from U.S & U.K quitted Facebook

Right now Facebook stands at no.1 in social networking sites, but users also concern for their privacy and to take care for that many of the users have deleted their FB accounts.

According to a research—Earlier this year, approximately 9 million Facebook users in the US and 2 million people in the UK have deleted their accounts.

Analysis of more than 600 people, by researchers from the University of Vienna, found that data protection issues and social pressure to add friends were also among the reasons for leaving.

NSA fear also stated in the report by Brenda Wiederhold, editor of the journal Cyberpsychology, Behaviour and Social Networking which published the findings, she said:

‘Given high profile stories such as WikiLeaks and the recent NSA surveillance reports, individual citizens are becoming increasingly more wary of cyber-related privacy concerns.

As Facebook quitters are increasing day-by-day, some of the Apps & websites already online to help them.  Apps such as the Suicide Machine and Seppukoo assist by automatically deleting private content, friends and pictures and making accounts inaccessible with password changes.

Adobe Hacked, 3 Million Customers’ data stolen along with credit/debit cards

Yesterday, Adobe suffered from a massive security breach in which three million customers were affected—their IDs, passwords, and credit card information accessed by hackers.

A security bulletin by Adobe reads:

Our investigation currently indicates that the attackers accessed Adobe customer IDs and encrypted passwords  on our systems. We also believe the attackers removed from our systems certain information relating to 2.9 million  Adobe customers, including customer names, encrypted credit or debit card numbers, expiration dates, and other  information relating to customer orders. At this time, we do not believe the attackers removed decrypted credit or  debit card numbers from our systems. Along with the confidential information of the customers—source code for numerous Adobe products were also accessed.

Adobe said, it would change the ”relevant customer passwords” as a precaution, it will also notify affected customers through E-mail to change their passwords. Adobe also stated—”Users who use same passwords on other sites as they use on Adobe, also change their passwords as well.”

One more important notification from Adobe also came out—whose credit or debit card information was compromised would be offered a year’s membership in a credit monitoring service courtesy of Adobe.

Security researcher, ‘Krebs‘ wrote about the product whose source code was accessed—”ColdFusion Web application platform and possibly [the] Acrobat family of products” were among those affected.

Adobe informed federal law enforcement authorities about this breach as well as its banking and payment processing partners.

Truth behind the Shutdown of Snowden’s email provider ‘Lavabit’

Lavabit, an encrypted e-mail service provider which was used by NSA leaker, “Edward Snowden” closed it’s doors in August, Lavabit’s founder Ladar Levison said he was closing the website to avoid “becom[ing] complicit in crimes against the American people,” which many took to mean he was resisting further surveillance demands by the US government.

But, yesterday, newly unsealed court records obtained by Wired take off the layers from the Lavabit Shutdown and reveal truth behind the story. Kevin Poulsen, the wired reporter reveal that Levison still fighting with U.S Govt. to avoid handing over the encryption keys that would allow government agents to read his customers’ emails.

The documents reveal, What was being inside?

Documents reveal—U.S government successfully obtained a search warrant in July which demanded Lavabit to hand over the encryption and secure-socket layer (SSL) keys to its system. Government was in fond of the info of an individual user, whose name has been redacted, but according to Wired,  it’s highly likely that user was Snowden himself.

Levison went to court to fight for his users’ privacy, where his attorney also argued—handing over the keys would put the security of Lavabit’s 400,000 users’ communications in menace. However, appeal was such a waste of time, Judge ordered Levison to provide the encryption keys, but still Levison didn’t want to disclose privacy of users, for this he took a last step, he provided keys by submitting an 11-page-long document in size 4 font, which the government called “illegible.” Wired quotes a newly unsealed government filing complaining about the move:

"To make use of these keys, the FBI would have to manually input all 2,560 characters, and one incorrect keystroke  in this laborious process would render the FBI collection system incapable of collecting decrypted data."

The last step taken by Levison also came out with a Failure, Court ordered Levison to make a more usable copy.

Levison is still appealing in Court, and he was told not to discuss any details in public, but it all come out through the yesterday’s wired report.

Indian top celebrities’ IT accounts hacked by a 22-Year-Old boy

Indian Top celebrities’ Income Tax accounts were hacked by a 22 year old boy, who is pursuing articleship at a local accounting firm. It all started when one of the Business Tycoon in India—Anil Ambani’s IT account was hacked and during the investigation it is also revealed that Anil Ambani was not only whose IT accounts hacked.

Celebrities whose accounts were hacked are:

• Anil Ambani (Buisness Tycoon)
• Sachin Tendulkar (Cricketer)
• Mahender SIngh Dhoni (Cricketer)
• Salman Khan
• Shahrukh Khan

Mukund Pawar, who is in-charge of the Cyber Crime cell in Mumbai told Mumbai Mirror, “We found out that the account was accessed from two places — Hyderabad and Noida. Our investigations led us to a girl from Chikkadpally. When we asked her, she denied she had accessed the account from Noida, or for that matter knew anybody there. We, therefor, realized that one more person had hacked the account.”
