How Do I Configure APC UPS For My LINUX Box For Auto Shut Down

My Linux server is connected to APC SmartUPS using usb cable and I would like to detect a power failure. If power is not restored my server must shutdown when the battery is exhausted. How do I configure and use my APC SmartUPS under RHEL / CentOS / Fedora / Linux operating system for power management?

Linux comes with GPL licensed open source apcupsd server ( daemon ) that can be used for power mangement and controlling most of APC's UPS models on Linux, BSD, Unix and MS-Windows operating systems. Apcupsd works with most of APC's Smart-UPS models as well as most simple signalling models such a Back-UPS, and BackUPS-Office. During a power failure, apcupsd will inform the users about the power failure and that a shutdown may occur. If power is not restored, a system shutdown will follow when the battery is exhausted, a timeout (seconds) expires, or runtime expires based on internal APC calculations determined by power consumption rates.

Connect UPS : You need to connect the UPS to your Server using cable. Your will see an entry in /var/log/messages which will tell you that the UPS is connected.
Configure the UPS :
# vi /etc/apcupsd/pacupsd.conf
First give your UPS a name, this is particulary useful when you have multiple UPS installed in the office UPSNAME officeups1
Next, defines the type of cable connecting the UPS to your Linux BOX. In this example I am connecting my UPS using usb cable ... UPSCABLE usb
### Set UPS type to USB ### UPSTYPE usb device
Configuration Parameters ONBATTERYDELAY 6 - This defines the time in seconds from when a power failure is detected until we react to it with a onbattery event.
BATTERYLEVEL 5 - If during a power failure the remaining battery percentage *as reported by the UPS* is below or equal to MINUTES apcupsd will initiate a shutdown to the Linux BOX

NSA hacked Email of Mexican president and top leaders

NSA hacked Email of Mexican president and top leaders

Latest documents released by Snowden reflect—Mexican President and Top leaders also got hunted through NSA undisclosed program called “Flatliquid”.
Eavesdropping on Mexican Country has been done by NSA for years. It hacked into the president’s public email account and gained deep insight into policymaking and the political systemDer Spiegel reported.
Spiegel reported some un-disclosed NSA programs from the documents provided by Snowden. Like a country use special forces to handle some special targets, as it is NSA has a division for particularly difficult missions called “Flatliquid”, Mexico was targeted through this special program.
Along with the “Flatliquid”—an another program named “Whitetamale” also spied on senior Mexican politicians (including presidential candidate Peña Nieto), targeting efforts to change the country’s disastrous War on Drugs.
In May 2010, the special division “Flatliquid” reported as Mission Mexico Completed. A report classified as “top secret” said: “TAO successfully exploited a key mail server in the Mexican Presidencia domain within the Mexican Presidential network to gain first-ever access to President Felipe Calderon’s public email account.”
Secret documents also revealed happiness of US intelligence agency for their success onto Mexico:
“These TAO accesses into several Mexican government agencies are just the beginning — we intend to go much further against this important target,” the document reads. It goes on to state that the divisions responsible for this surveillance are “poised for future successes.”
This revelation will affect the relationship between U.S & Mexico for sure. Let’s wait ‘n’ watch for some upcoming comments by NSA.
Pena Nieto’s predecessor as president, Felipe Calderon, was also targeted. An image from the NSA Presentation VIA- Der Spiegel

Anonymous raise for Justice, launch #OpMaryville for Daisy Coleman rape case

Anonymous raise for Justice, launch #OpMaryville for Daisy Coleman rape case

A new face of Anonymous hackers came out, when they announced their peaceful operation #OpMaryville for the case of 14-year-old Daisy Coleman and her 13-year-old friend, who were allegedly abused by two boys, one of whom was the grandson of state official Rex Barnett.
The Daisy case was closed in 2012 and charges were dropped from those boys, but Now, Anonymous wants an investigation on the case again because of the lack of charges.
In an online statement Anonymous released on pastebin, scheduled the time and venue of the protest, they write:
On Tuesday, October 22, 2013, at 10:00am we will meet at the Nodaway County Courthouse in Maryville, Missouri with daisies in our hands for a peaceful protest in support of Daisy Coleman.
Along with the case reopening, Anonymous also calling media to file FOIA requests to discover any connections between Matthew’s grandfather, Missouri State Rep. Rex Barnett, Maryville law enforcement and the prosecutors who dropped Daisy’s case.
Anonymous also created an event on facebook named “Justice for Daisy” and you can find more people talking about this operation with hashtags—#OpMaryville and #Justice4Daisy.
We also got an update from twitter, about the Video that Anonymous released regarding #OpMaryville was deleted by YouTube because the video itself violates the Community Guidelines (according to YouTube.)
In the meantime the video shows nothing and shows a message which reads, “The Video has been removed as a violations of YouTube policy against  spam, scams, and commercially deceptive content”
On the deletion of the YouTube video, one of the Anonymous hacker says, “The video was uploaded on October 14, so why did YouTube started to censor this video 2 days after the upload. Mainstream media, blogs, social networks etc. pick up this topic (including the video) and rised up to a national topic. The video raised to 130.000+ views until it was censored by the YouTube Team.”

Snowden: American and Canadian agencies spied on Brazilian Energy Ministry

Snowden: American and Canadian agencies spied on Brazilian Energy Ministry

29

Latest leak by Edward Snowden reflects that Canada & U.S  spied on the Brazilian Energy Ministry. The documents leaked by Snowden explore—how the data reaped through spying was shared with international spy network the ‘Five Eyes.’
Who’s behind Five Eyes?
The Group Five Eyes includes— United States, Britain, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
Newly-released documents were handed over to Guardian Journalist Glenn Greenwald, that describes—how Canadian spy agency works like NSA.
“I was overwhelmed by the power of the tools used. The Ministry of Energy and Mines was totally dissected,” security expert Paulo Pagliusi told Fantastico (A Brazilian program), which first spotted the news.
That Brazilian program reported—In a meeting with the ‘Five Eyes’ network,  the Communications Security Establishment Canada (CSCE) presented that the target is Ministry of Mines and Energy of Brazil, according to the program the meeting was held in June of last year and Snowden was at this meeting.
In the meeting, program named ‘Olympia’ was discussed to breakthrough the Brazilian ministry’s encryption.
“They [Five Eyes] are sharing all the information, handing over documents to let other countries know exactly what they are doing,” said Glen Greenwald.
What’s inside Olympia?
For the Inside view of Ministry, the CSCE developed a detailed map of the institution’s communications and after that Olympia help them for:
  • Monitoring email and electronic communications
  • Eavesdropping on telephone conversations
  • Olympia also included that strategy—which was able to identify mobile numbers, SIM card registrations and the make of a phone.
Canada refused to comment on its Spy program, and Brazil’s Minister of Mines and Energy Edison Lobao told Fantastico that the reports were “serious” and should be condemned.
“Canada has interests in Brazil, especially in the mining sector. Does this spying serve the commercial interests of select groups? I cannot say,” observed Lobao.
